At the Kings Court Positions Appointed Le Party Scene Les Femmes Bonnes Military Matters Religious Affaires Crossed Blades Comings and Goings & Le Interview avec le Compte d'Avignon, Robespierre O'Rielly Court of Facets Apparently there has been some talk that Paris has not been informed about behind the scenes. The Minister of State and the Minister of War had been in deep collusion to which his majesty King Henri IV was a party. It seemed that the matters were myriad. The Ministers of State and War were busy hammering out the upcoming summer campaign. But, it was the future throne that was truly on the States mind. While the Minister of War was intent on making Paris and France safer. And then there was the infrastructure of be be looked after in the coming months. And then there were appointments to be made at court. The Summer Campaign will be in Tuscany where the Royal North Highlanders and the Frontier Regiments currently hold field operations and from whence Major le Fey of the Royal Foot Guard has returned. The North Highlanders and Frontier Regiments will remain in Tuscany through the campaign this summer. Then they will be joined by the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Foot Brigades will join them along with the Dragoon Guard. The recent events of the winter season in Tuscany has decided the Ministers to continue in that arena for the next six months and then, depending on how Tuscany fairs, they will decide in June whether to continue after the summer. The Field Marshall has selected General Bice to head the Field Army. The Minister of State had his mind divided as to matters of war and matters of state. The future of France rests on a queen being found for Henri and for an heir to ensue. Henri is the first of his line, the Bourbons. He needs to secure his line and is future. There are many that believe he is a pretender to the thrown, a newly converted Protestant turn Catholic. It is only by this conversion that the Pope in Rome would assent to the Bourbon King. The Pope is still unhappy with the matters in England where the Protestant Virgin Queen Elizabeth remains a thorn in his side and a constant reminder of the loss of Britain to King Henry VIII. At Cardinal Sully's recommendation, the Minister of State has sent a missive to the Vatican City to ask for advice and to identify potential candidates. Let's hope that someone suitable turns up soon. The King has approved of a plan by the Minister of War to increase the number of regiments. According to what I can gleam of their plan, the Royal Dragoons will become a brigade all to their own by splitting their officers to create the Paris Light Dragoon regiment. The two regiments will comprise the Dragoon Brigade. To replace the Royal Dragoons in the Heavy Brigade, they propose to split the Crown Prince Cuirassiers into an accompanying regiment, the Royal Cuirassiers. Additionally, they wish to create a fourth foot regiment. The 13th Fusiliers are being called up from the frontier regiments to take the 27th Musketeers in the 2nd Foot Brigade. The 27th Musketeers will become part of the 3rd Foot Brigade along with the 4th Arquebusiers who are also being called in from the frontier regiments. The current 3rd Foot Brigade comprising of the 69th Arquebusiers and the Gascon Regiment will comprise the 4th Foot Brigade. The suggestion was made to put the new structure in place for the summer campaign, but Chevalier Luc le Canard-Jaune quickly pointed out that such a change would cause difficulties in the ranks. Officers who had earned the respect of their men would be commanding soldiers not well known to them. He also pointed out that the time necessary to drill them was short and with the upcoming campaign mere months away, the force would be weakened and disorganized. At Lord le Canard-Jaune's suggestion, the changes will take place in September when the army returns from Tuscany. Only one hitch has fallen into their plans. It is said that when Minister Sully, His Eminence heard of the news, he was quite displeased at not being consulted. Had he known that this was on the agenda, he would have attended the meeting. Let us hope that he continues to give King Henri good advice and that a schism does not form in the court. On another note, the Master of the Hunt, the Keeper of the Seals, and the Royal Steward were appointed at court to serve his Majesty King Henri IV for the coming year. In March, King Henri IV will remain in Paris where Cardinal Minister Sully has said he will attend. There are no events planned. |
