Updates on 30 June 2005:

ON Page 9 - 10 of Rules:

A character may train as much as he likes, but only one week of training will have an effect on his strength each month.

Like STR, only one week of training will improve CON for the month.

ON Page 24 of Rules:

Attending church is a week or weekend action.  If a character makes a donation, it is at his SL, which means it costs him that much in crowns. Mistresses can be taken (and have their collection money paid unless Wealthy). Church attendees have no causes for duels through other people who are also attending church.

ON Page 9 - 10 of Rules:

If the mistress is of a higher social level, it becomes increasingly more difficult to court her successfully. However, spending crowns in multiples of three times her SL can lower the roll needed by one for every three times her SL spent.  This represents the purchase of presents and gifts to placate the lady so she becomes more willing to be wooed.  If she is more than six SL higher, she cannot be successfully courted. Additionally, a non-noble may not court a mistress that is a noble. However, a nobleman may court a non-noble mistress.

Updates on 8 June 2005:

23.2. Other Investments: In March specific investments are possible in Arms, Finance, and Commerce.

Updates on 7 June 2005:

After careful consideration, I have decided that I am going to change the manner in which force commitment and armies are chosen.  It will shorten the time span in which the campaigns are put together.  They are not going to be able to be influenced.  So the entire commitment, structure, and deployment will be decided all at once.  This will eliminate 2 months game time in deciding these matters.  My goal is to be able to do it in three.

ON Page 36:

13.1. Army Composition: The Army takes time to determine. The strength of the Force for the following summer has to be determined. Deployment and division must be decided.  Then the commanders of each unit are determined right down the line.  The decisions follow this manner:

In February:

  1. The MoW decides on the Force Commitment and Deployment of the Armies.  He also determines the Inspector Generals of the Infantry and Cavalry.
  2. The FM determines the number of Armies and selects the Army Commanders and the Adjutant General.

In March:

  1. The Army Commanders select the Quarter-Master Generals and the Army Adjutants.
  2. The Adjutant General selects the Division Commanders.
  3. The Inspector Generals select the Brigadiers.

In April:

  1. The Division Commander selects the Division Adjutants.
  2. The Brigadier selects the Brigade Majors.
  3. These moves determine the individual Regimental Commanders.

In May:

  1. The Regimental Commanders select the Regimental Adjutants.

For NPCs in the positions of MoW and FM a die is rolled for each decision. A PC can simply choose.

Updates on 5 June 2005:

ON Page 1:  Appointment holding NPC. Players wishing to submit press from such an NPC must send this first to the GM, who will submit as either ‘official’ press, or as anonymous press if it is to be as a scurrilous rumor with no real substance.

 If an influencebable announcement is not listed both in the announcements and in the database, it will not occur.

 ON Page 3:  2.1.2. Talents / Skills:

In all cases, if the check fails (a result of 5 or 6), at least one SP is lost automatically lost.  If successfully (a result of 1 or 2), at least one SP is automatically gained.  When the Skill Check is affecting another roll, the result may general a modifier to the secondary roll of -2 to +2.

ON Page 4:  When the character acquires four times the current SL, he gains the next level and pays 3 times the old SL in SP in addition to the 2 times SL in SP in normal support.

ON Page 5:  Ordained members of the clergy are assumed to confess to their superiors and no negative SP are awarded.

ON Page 6:  Success transfers between 5% and 30% of the target's funds into the thief's hands.

ON Page 20:  In the case of officers of the general staff, they no longer belong to a regiment. If an officer leaves the general staff, to take up a Civil or Court appointment, for example, he goes on detached duty, receiving half pay and SP as though he was retired.  In order to return to the general staff he must make an application to the Ministers of War and of State. They will accept his return on a 3+ (d6). Both Ministers must accept his return. Otherwise, the detached general retires effectively immediately on the denied application. Retired generals (whether full Brigadiers, Lt. Generals, or Generals) continue to receive a pension of 20Cr per month and 10 SP per month.

ON Page 21:  If the Field Marshal retires, he returns to his full General rank and effectively retires from the military on full pay and status, and is unable to take up any military appointment in the future.

If petitioned, an NPC will order such a veto on a 5+ (d6).

ON Page 23:  8.9. The Guards Regiment. The primary responsibility of the Guards Regiment is to safeguard the persons and property of their charges. The Royal Foot Guards and the Cardinal’s Guard do not serve with the army during any campaign season.  They remain with their charges and follow them wherever in France they may be.  Some companies have a specific member of the royal family to which they are assigned, or the Cardinal.  The other companies must either remain in Paris to guard the palace or travel to protect the King when out in the provinces.  While the brigades guard the area around their charges, the escorts guard the charges themselves more closely.  Hence, they have more freedom around court whereas the brigades do not.  The King’s Musketeers do serve in the normal campaigns and will be sent on the Summer Campaign if the Guard Regiment is required.  The Brevet Brigadier General may be from any of the Guard Regiments.

Characters attending court and not spending the week fulfilling duties in the KM, CG, or RFG may bring one guest.

ON Page 30:  Upon obtaining an audience, an etiquette check is required. If successful, the character is granted a Royal Favour with possible modifiers dependent on the etiquette check. Trying for an Audience must be ordered as a pre-monthly action and published in the press.

Upon obtaining an audience, an etiquette check is required. If successful, the character is granted a Clerical Favour with possible modifiers dependent on the etiquette check. Trying for an Audience must be ordered as a pre-monthly action and published in the press.

If a character toadying makes his etiquette check (ie gets a result of ‘Average Job’ or better), he gains SP based on the difference between SL. If the Toady is of a lower noble rank, he gains 1 SP per rank of difference (i.e. a Chevalier would gain 4 SP by toadying to a Marquis). Finally, the Toady gains SP, if any, as per the Etiquette Check.

ON Page 31:

  1. Etiquette Roll Result 1: Royal Favour and the Snubbing being lifted immediately;
  2. Etiquette Roll Result 2: Immediate lifting of the Snubbing;
  3. Etiquette Roll Result 3 or 4: Remain snubbed and leave court immediately;
  4. Etiquette Roll Result 5: Royal Disfavour;
  5. Etiquette Roll Result 6: Snubbed a second time.

10.3. Royal Disfavour: Attending court always requires an etiquette check. On an Etiquette Roll Result of 5 or 6, there is a 1 in 6 chance that it will anger the King and incur Royal Disfavour. Disfavour can take the form of a lost appointment or rank, disgrace and service at the front, loss of wealth or titles, or even exile or execution. Influence can be used to either encourage or discourage Royal Disfavour. The Etiquette Roll Result gives a negative modifier to the Disfavour Roll.

The King will believe them and bestow his Disfavour on the unwitting subject if the character's Etiquette Roll Result is a one.  For every 3 SL the requestor is over the victim gives -1 on the Royal Disfavour roll, as does each class 9 favour.

ON Page 32:  On an Etiquette Roll Result of 1 or 2, there is a 1 in 6 chance that it will please the King or the Cardinal and acquire a Favour. A favour can take the form of a Mention in the Dispatches, a monetary gift, and an invitation to toady, a favour or even a title attempt. Influence can be used to either encourage or discourage favour.  The Etiquette Roll Result can grant a positive modifier to the favour roll.
