And I thought I could do it?  Well of course I could.  There is no reason why I couldn't.

Current Project:  Dog Room

So, we recently got two puppies:  Tanner, a border collie/rough collie and Katie, a Australian shepherd/sheltie.  Both are very active dogs.  We want them to be indoor dogs, but that will take several years.  They won't truly be housetrained until about a year.  As such, We need some room.  Currently they have their playpen in the breakfast room which is only about 6' x 6'. I am building a indoor/outdoor playpen and room in the garage for them.  I purchased a playpen for them that is 7.5' x 12' x 6'.  It gives them a little more room and will let them be outside when we are not at home.  HOWEVER, I have also cut and installed a door into the back of the garage which is adjacent to the playpen.  Inside the garage I am building a room the width of the garage (about 32') and about 6' deep.  By running 2' x 4' x 10's vertically and horizontally creating a frame and tacking a chain link fence to the frame, I effectively create a wall and give them much more room allowing them greater playroom when we are not home.  A door will be in the fence inside so there is access all the way through the garage.  It is taking longer than I expected, but that is normal for any project of mine.

The door installation in the garage wall was a learning experience.  I did everything wrong I possibly could have, but the door functions perfectly.  I guess I didn't do everything wrong.  The biggest problem was inexperience and not having the right tools.  Benches and clamps are essential especially when handling something larger than yourself.  When trying to drill holes and cut indentions for door hardware, holding and bracing with your legs is simply not sufficient.  Also, putting the door into the frame before putting the frame into the wall is a better decision than doing them separately.  It is much easier to place the hinges when the door and frame are on the ground instead of trying to dill the holes and hang the door on a frame that already is in place.
